Installation Guide

How do I attach the barb to my spear shaft?expand_more
Installing the Protir Sub detachable barb is simple. Slide the adapter base over the tip of your threaded shaft and tighten it using a 10mm wrench. Ensure the locking pin is aligned perpendicular to the shaft for optimal hold. Tip: Apply a drop of medium-strength thread locker (blue Loctite) to the threads to prevent vibration loosening during travel.
Do I need special tools for assembly?expand_more
No specialized marine tools are required. You will only need a standard 10mm open-end wrench to secure the adapter. The barb mechanism itself is tool-free for field detachment.

Maintenance & Care

How do I prevent rust and corrosion?expand_more
Our barbs are made from 17-4 PH stainless steel, which is highly resistant to corrosion. However, to maximize longevity, always rinse the detachable assembly with fresh water after every dive. Store it dry and separated from the shaft if storing for long periods.
